Kaleido House
Infill house on a dilapidated garage site in Hampstead, London
London, UK
2014
Sector: Residential
Client: Private Client
Project Status: Current
The new proposal aims to replace the existing dilapidated garages with a high quality single family house that responds intimately with its plot. Due to the limitation of the site area, the three floors of the house were arranged on top of each other in a kaleidoscope manner. They were flipped and mirrored to form terraces and a courtyard garden, resulting in a diverse, yet intimate environment.
The client for the project is a concrete specialist, so our intention was to form it entirely out of white concrete both internally and structurally. A series of strategically placed skylights and windows were then introduced to illuminate the interior, yet maintain a level of privacy.
